Disco de Jurassic 5: “Quality Control [PA]”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Jurassic 5: Chali 2NA, Zaakir, Akil, Marc 7, Cut Chemist, DJ Nu-Mark.
Additional personnel: Roberto Morena (bass); Bernard Purdie (drums).
Producers: DJ Nu-Mark, Cut Chemist, Shafiq Husayn.
Engineers: Stefan Neary, Mark Ellis, Cut Chemist.
Forgoing the grim lyrical concerns of many of their hip-hop contemporaries, Los Angeles' Jurassic 5 point up a more carefree time in the music's history. Recalling the youthful irreverence of the Native Tongues groups, Jurassic 5's easygoing rhymes and bouncy rhythms reveal a reverence for hip-hop's "old school," when the definition of a good tune was something to rock the party.
QUALITY CONTROL maintains an infectious energy level throughout. The MCs all take turns playing what they like to refer to as 'verbal basketball', spouting seemingly stream-of-conscious street poetry. Often the lyrics seem nonsensical; the emphasis here is more on fun and less on violent imagery or consciousness-raising agitprop. As demonstrated by the smart production work of Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark, Jurassic 5 avoid simplistic musical formulae. Many of the sample sources are obscure, and encompass a wide range, from swing and funk, to jazz. Open-minded hip-hop fans will find simple pleasures in QUALITY CONTROL's optimistic and upbeat grooves.

- Instant Classic

For all the airplay J5 got, they are still underappreciated. Somehow this group is able to take progressive beats and forward-thinking lyrics and build them on a foundation of old school hip-hop that works together so well, its magical. Every time I play a song from this album at a party (especially Great Expectations- the best track on QC), I get multiple people asking me to identify the incredible music.

No hip-hop fan should be without this album.

- AMAZING, HIP HOP ALBUM OF THE YEAR

wow, this release was long awaited but i must say definitely worth it. Jurassic 5 have turned out a hip hop classic. The rappers flow with great ease, as well as amazing lyrics in their old school meets new school style. Rare funk samples and superb production by Cut Chemist and Numark finish it off- everyone buy this- they deserve the long awaited success

I love metal. Why would I bother to review a hip-hop CD? Because, it rocks! As many people have said, Jurassic 5 have found a niche. They've noticed that happy and rapping don't mix. So, they released an album that goes back to the days of P.M. Dawn and Run-DMC, a time when hip-hop was new, and exciting. When bad-talking, acting 'tough', and trying to get 'dope' or 'tight' was non-existent. Just listen to "The Influence", or "Quality Control" and tell me those beats aren't wicked. Plus, Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark(whom I respect greatly after hearing their stuff on an instrumental track on an Incubus CD) put some slick grooves and mixes into every song. I really don't like rap, no, actually, I hate rap; but these dudes and House Of Pain cast some light on the genre. This CD is awesome and is good music to chill to. Remember, I LIKE METAL, and this still kicks!

To tell you the truth, I'm sick of a lot of mainstream rappers. When will they stop rhyming about women, cars, and the hood?

If you're sick of that kind of stuff too, try listening to Jurassic 5.

After the intro, "The Influence" starts playing. The second you hear that song, you know this album has to be good. After that song, this album does not let up. It has everything you could want in a hip hop album- positive, uplifting lyrics, great beats, sampling, and mixing. I would have to say that the standout MC is Chali 2NA, although everyone has their own unique sound.

The reason I did not give this album 5 stars is because some songs on this album don't measure up to others, but that's ok. No album is perfect. Pick this up if you want a party album for the summer!

- Classic

This will definitely be a hip-hop classic when we look back on this record years from now. It has well thought out lyrics, smooth production by two of the best in the business, cut chemist and nu-mark, and every song is different. It;s not like most albums out where you listen to one song and all the rest are the same, this is like all the other classic hip-hop records: Beastie Boys, Paul's Boutique; De la Soul, 3 feet high and rising; Tribe called quest, low end theory, etc. They all have the same elements that make them classics. They all are very fun to listen as well. You can listen to them over and over and not get tired. Another reason is they don't sound dated. The lyrics, beats and everything else are timeless. All the songs on this album are excellant. I've never heard anything put out by J5 that wasn't top notch. They are a very creative bunch and deserve all of the praise they can get.
