Crime Mob Album: “Hated On Mostly [PA]”

Crime Mob Album: “Hated On Mostly [PA]”
Description :
On their sophomore release, HATED ON MOSTLY, the five-member Atlanta outfit Crime Mob follow the same formula that brought them success on their 2004 self-titled debut. The emphasis is still on energetic club bangers with amped-up choruses. Largely self-produced, HATED ON MOSTLY's beats are straight crunk, from zooming synthesizers and crisp drum tracks to cinematic string arrangements. Lil Scrappy, Bohagon, and Pimp C all make guest appearances.

- 2-1/2 stars -- Not that I was expecting much, but...

Like most people, I first heard of Crime Mob back in 2004 when they dropped "Knuck If You Buck". Because the song didn't really sound much different than anything else out there, I didn't check for their self-titled album. But now they came back with Hated on Mostly, and if you're wondering WHY they're hated on mostly, I'll tell you straight out: because they're wack.

Actually, the first three songs are okay, but as for "Rock Yo Hips", the only parts I can stand are the guys' verses because, sorry, Diamond and Princess just can't rap. In fact, they're so bad that they make Shawnna look like MC Lyte. This is especially evident in songs like "All-Madden" and the obligatory screwed song, "Shine `Cause I Grind".

Another song that proves this is the overrated "2nd Look". Speaking of that, several of the songs also have uncreative, repetitive choruses, like "Go to War" (with Pimp C), "Sign in the Air", "We Some Playaz" and "Wuz Up" (featuring some D4L members). And even when the Mob try for a slower, more romantic tune, they fall flat (see "Circles").

It looks like I'm in the minority when I say that the men are better rappers than the women (that really isn't saying much, though), but even then they don't have much to say. To be honest, it should almost be a crime to make music that's this uninteresting (2-1/2 stars is being nice), so leave Hated on Mostly alone.

- Love it

I have to say that I really loved this cd...To be honest I was a little shocked that they had that much talent...I purchased this a long time ago but I still listen to this cd all the time...Too bad they split up....good down south music...and if you have a system it really bumps lol

- Attitude delivered

Crimemob deliver one of the best albums of 2007 with this sophomore. The album delivers the raw energy, attitude and even more swagger then their debut album. All four artists deliver simple punchy lines and straight gangsta talk. Stand out tracks are; Represent, On the Rise, 2nd Look (great beat), Circles (very nice track), Sign in the Air. I wasn't really feeling the first single "Rock Yo Hips." The second single " Circles" is one of the best tracks on the album, an instant favourite, all four artists are drop tough lyrics , "this one here, I'm cuffin...." I feel that "Sign in the Air" or "2nd Look" should definitely be one of the singles and should have a video.

Note to those hating on crimemob; I do not understand those who rate this album and compare it to other styles of hip hop music. This is crunk music and it should be compared to other such albums. Crunk music is not to be thought provoking or educational, if you want this go read a book. I do not expect music artists who invest their young lives into making music to be my mentors or intellectual guidance. I separate this part of my life from music.

Most of the reviewers who gave bad ratings to this album, aren't from the streets and have no streetness and swagger, and real recognize real. I be bumping this heavy when I'm at the boxing gym or swerving in the H2. Lot's of energy on the album.
