Senegalese-American rapper and songwriter Akon called for greater African unity as he arrived in his home country to perform Friday at the world's biggest celebration of black arts and culture.

THE planned concert of popular Senegalese-American pop star Akon, slated for Jan 8 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, has been cancelled due to 'recently developed, unforeseen and unexpected circumstances'. In an official released statement, Entangle Pte Ltd, the local agency that had originally organised the Jan 8 concert, said that this was an unfortunate development.

Local concert promoter Entangle, which organised the concert, said in a statement yesterday that it had 'no choice' but to cancel the show because of 'unexpected circumstances'.
