Shawnna Album: “Worth Tha Weight [PA]”
Description :
Personnel: Shawnna (rap vocals); Ms. Thing, Beenie Man (vocals); Jermaine Dupri, Kardinal Offishall, Ludacris, Missy Elliott, N.O.R.E., Twista (rap vocals).
Recording information: South Side Studios, Atlanta, GA; United Technique, Chicago, ILL; The Lab, Orlando, FL.
While Shawnna had been around the music world for about a decade before her debut album, she became known to most rap fans as a member of the supergroup Disturbing Tha Peace and shined on a provocative turn on Ludacris' "P-Poppin'." No shrinking violet, Shawnna brings an unrelenting blast of hip-hop fury on WORTH THA WEIGHT, confident enough to stop her opening song, "My Chicago (Part 1)" abruptly when she feels she's got nothing more to say.
While she is the daughter of legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy, Shawnna found her inspiration in a different form of blues, the rough-edged street-survival raps of Ice Cube. Her debut certainly comes from the same mold as records like THE PREDATOR, as she cruises through various slice-of-life narratives of hustling on the Chicago streets. Mentor Ludacris lends his hand a few times, most notably on a frenetic collaboration with Twista on "R.P.M." However, as a fiercely independent woman, Shawnna can stand on her own, making WORTH THA WEIGHT an effective opening salvo.

- To Shawnna: Screw The Haters!!

I don't know why people say this isn't a good album... true there was some already released songs but SO WHAT!? I like all the songs on this CD except for "Posted" Remix with N.O.R.E.... That song bugged the hell out of me.

My standout Tracks are:

1. Intro: My Chicago Pt.1(5/5): This intro is very good. No bullsh*t crap: example: sex, clothes, money.

2. Let's Go (5/5): This song is so HOT! Shawnna proves to not be a sl*t or a wh*re in this song.. This is a party song. One of my favorites.

3. R.P.M. (10/5): Although this song was previously released, it is still a kick a$$ song! Although Shawnna was rapping the way Twista does, she still comes sick with it!! I usually fast-forward Twista's verse cuz both of Shawnna's verses were just amazing and in my opinion she outshines him in this song!

5. Shake Dat Sh*t: (5/5) Many heard this song.. and many have diff opinions about it. I think it is a tight song backed up with a tight beat. Ludacris contributes to the song with the chorus but Shawnna just tears it up! She is one of the only true stars in DTP!

other standouts are:

U Crazy

Weight a Minute

My Chicago Pt.2

What Can I Do

So Real So Right

Kick This One (Shawnna freestyles in a sense in this song and it is unbelievably TIGHT!!!!!!!)

Superfreak - Another Hot song... This song is mainly the only song that she talks about sex in but she doesnt use words like Lil'Kim and Trina would use.

Turn It Up

Block Reincarnated - This song is pretty nice but Kardinal Offishal ruined it.

Cami's Solo- Many don't like it but I recommend people to listen to it... take 50 seconds and if you dont like it then dont listen to it... its that simple.

Dude(bonus track)- This is a very good song. Although I think that it shouldn't have been on this CD since Shawnna just spits one verse in the whole song.

Overall this CD is definately Worth the Weight. I wouldn't buy it for $18.00 but if it is any lower then for sure I would buy it.. I dont think it is up to $18.00 status yet.

anyway Shawnna is a great femcee, others who think differently... then I don't know what too say cuz I truly think Shawnna can dethrone Lil'Kim and proclaim herself the NEW QUEEN BEE!

and people who think this would be a sex-crazed album then think again. This album is not at all sexual like Lil'Kim, Foxy, Trina or Khia.

- Worth Tha Weight....Sadly, no

What did Shawnna do to get a poorly put together, rushed album out into the stores? Shawnna is pretty nice on the mic, even though the pool of female rappers isn't that deep right now, but she didn't deserve this. Her first single off `Worth Tha Weight' was on point in "Shake Dat Sh**" w/ Ludacris, but the rest is pretty much scattered low filler material. "R.P.M" w/ Twista & Ludacris was already on the `Golden Grain' album, but it's a great song for the people who didn't here it. My favorites on this album are "My Chicago pt 1" & "My Chicago pt 2", produced by B-Crucial, but here's the thing-they're both less than a minute long and are both the same beat, which won't cut it. DTP/Def Jam should have taken A LOT more time in gettin' this album made, cause I'm sure everyone who bought this got BURNED bad.

- Worth Tha Weight??? MOS DEF!!!!!!!!!!

Okay... first of all, I haven't been this impressed with an artist in so long, I can't even remember. Shawnna delivers on this album. She comes with a sick flow, crazy beats, and lyrics that'll have you spitting them like they're your own. from FRONT TO BACK this album is crazy. I haven't stopped bumping it since I got it. And even though she takes a shot at Foxy on the album, and I just happen to be crazy about Foxy, I can still say she is by far one of the sickest MC's on the planet... male or female. I have played the album for over 20 people already, and I can say with the most honesty and certanty, that every single one of them has agreed that Shawnna is so good, she's crazy. The album is sick, and if you don't have it, or you're thinking of getting it, don't wait any longer. Shawnna is off the hook. If I could give it a 10 out of 5, I would... One of the best hip-hop albums of the last 10 years... and trust that this is coming from a TRUE UNDENIABLE hip-hop junkie.

- 3.5 really. why don't we have that option

This album was decent. There was alot of reissued songs on here (RPM, Posted, Block Reincarnated), but it still pretty straight. Not really much spark to it. I brought it but the promotion is weak. Production is okay, the rhymes are simple but passable. She is killing 9/10 of all female MCs in the game now. When in God's name is Foxy's new one coming out?

Top 3 Songs: RPM (best), Posted Remix, Block Reincarnated

Bottom 3 Songs: Let's Go, U Crazy, What can I Do?

Sleeper: Weight A Minute
