Scarface Album: “Last of a Dying Breed [PA]”

Scarface Album: “Last of a Dying Breed [PA]”
Description :
Brad Johnson is originally from The Geto Boys, the rap trio who put Houston on the map. In this dark and brooding collection, written as a very personal diary, over the course of 15 tracks Johnson sets the record straight. <p>The title track takes us from the rapper's conception to his emergence from the womb, relating how he's the last of his truly tormented kind, while in "Look Into My Eyes" he admits the horrible truths of his past and laments that people can't look past that and move on. "Down With Us" lets his influence in the music industry be known, while "O.G. 2 Me" runs down the real meaning of Original Gangster. "Conspiracy Theory" tells of a Mafia set up gone wrong, the informer caught and brought to justice, Houston style. In "My Time" Johnson knows he's running out of time and considers a born again lifestyle--whether he achieves redemption or not, with LAST OF A DYING BREED he's made a compelling album.

- Another solid album from a Rap Legend - 4.5 stars

Back again for the legend 2 and a half years after his worst "solo" effort, "My Homies" he brings you his 6th solo album. This is not his best album but still very strong & better than 85% of the rap albums out today. It's probably my 3rd or 4th favorite of hi sfirst 8 solo albums. When Face drops an album there is always one certainty, it'll be a very good album or a classic, this one is very good. His lyrics are as usual Great and deep. The production is good as with all his albums, done by Mr. Lee, Face himself, Mike Dean & N.O. Joe. It has no songs I skip, 2 that are ok, 2 classics, and 9 good or great songs. Has a little more guests then he usually does but they do a good job. A must have rap album.

#2 - 7.5

#3 - 9 (gets on the DEA)

#4 - 8

#5 - 8.5 (f/ Pimp C & Bun B {UGK} -- sends out a lot of shouts to other rappers)

#6 - 9 (great beat)

#7 - 8.5 (f/ Jayo Felony, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt)

#8 - 9.5 (great beat)

#9 - 9.5 (great beat0

#10 - 10 (Classic w/ great beat)

#11 - 8 (f/ Jay-Z -- about a stick up)

#12 - 10 (Classic dirty song -- f/ (Who Else for this kind of song?) -- Devin the Dude & Too $hort)

#13 - 7 (f/ redman and young noble of the Outlawz)

#14 - 8.5 (deep song)

- Welcome Back, Face!

I have to be one of Face's No.#1 fans. Growing up in H-town for 23 of my 32 years, I've been a loyal supporter since the very beginning. I own and love every Geto Boys/Scarface CD. On "Dying Breed" I must admit I'm a bit disappointed with the CD as a whole. With the long layoff I was expecting Super Tight, instead I got Pretty Good! In 2000, you have to really bring your best efforts in hip-hop, no more fillers on a CD, and that's my biggest critisism for "Dying Breed"; Half is great and half tends to be OK (production wise and lyrically), what happened to those gangsta beats and gangsta stories of the past? Maybe, this getto boy has gotten spoiled with instant classics CDs coming from the likes of Outkast, Jay-z, Dr.Dre, DMX; No fillers allowed. The bar has been raised in hip-hop, and Scarface's new joint can't touch his previous CD "Untouchable". The songs "IT Aint" and "Down With Us",the joint with UGK,are the only noteables. The joints with Redman,Daz/Kurupt don't work on any level. And the Jay-z joint along with the remainder of the CD is very average.

- Scarface's magnum opus

Dont get me wrong. I like the Fix but this album was seriouly overlooked. The album starts off with Last Of A Dying Breed as Scarface tells a story of how his mother copped with giving birth to him. Look In Me In My Eyes follows. They Down With Us is that vintage southern collabo with UGK as all three ripped over the old Krs-One sample. Sorry For What is more vivid storytelling with a purpose. Gangsta S*** and Watch Ya Step are two more hard edged highlights. Jay-z shows up on the superb Get Out. Devin The Dude and Too Short show up on the raunchy In & Out. And Yo which features Redman and Young Noble(why didnt they metion him in the credits?) is another hip hop gem as all three kill it. The only track I thought was weak was OG To Me(feat Dogg Pound and Jayo Felony). Scarface verse on that track was hot though. Bottom Line: Scarface's Last Of A Dying Breed is his best work to date. The production was great, Scarface's rhymes were on point and the guest spots were dope too(except for The Dogg Pound and Jayo Felony). Its a pity that this album is highly overlooked. Standout tracks: LAST OF A DYING BREED, LOOK ME IN MY EYES, THEY DOWN WITH US, SORRY FOR WHAT, THE GANGSTA S--T, CONSPIRACY THEORY, WATCH YA STEP, GET OUT, IN&OUT, AND YO and IN MY TIME.

- tight CD

After I started to bumb The Last of a Dying Breed, I was already into the CD. The beats are off the hook. This is a must buy album and if you don't have it, you should get it. My favorite tracks are the single "It Ain't (Part II), "O.G. to me" featuring Jayo, Daz, and Kurupt, and "Get Out" with Jay-Z.
