Roots Manuva Album: “Alternately Deep”

Roots Manuva Album: “Alternately Deep”
Description :
Roots Manuva ended up with a great many tracks from the sessions of his critically-acclaimed album AWFULLY DEEP, many of which ended up as B-sides and remixes. A brace of those tracks appears on the mid-priced collection ALTERNATELY DEEP, finding the rapper/producer twisting and rearranging his tracks--along with contributions from grime heavies like Jammer, Lotek, and Colossus--to a suitably dark and futuristic effect. Jarring bass, booming drums, and left-of-center synth stabs paint a dark, misty background for the London rapper to flow over, touching on themes of reggae, dub, Miami bass, and abstract, left field electro and techno. ALTERNATELY DEEP brings a sizeable amount of hard, mid-tempo club-dub heaviness to the table, and successfully keeps Roots Manuva at the forefront of UK hip-hop innovation.

roots is back again with his 2nd album in less than i year. this time he reveales to us his secret vault of unreleased mixes & alternate songs for the first time. #1 no love is a song from the too cold single album, sounding more like neo brand new second hand type of motion. i have now 5 different versions of seat yourself #2including the live from the forum version, the miami mix is probably the best version just bringin out more of the sounds. double draft #3 is a song that in 2004 roots put on his website for a download only track costing about 4 american dollars & was said to never be released, but good thing that changed cause in my opinoin is his best song ever, bringin a fearse funk beat to hip hop & soul, manuva tackticz. nobody's dancing #4 is the closest sound i think that roots manuva has gotten to sounding like similar to the gorillaz, but manuvadelic, just has the kinda 80's electro britpop sound to it. things we do #5 is the rarest of the singles songs only available on the rarest version of the colossal insight single, but this is a steller track very upbeat anthem style. check it remix #6 is also another song with several versions available, this version is more dub oriented, like pole though. get u high #7 is curently on the roots main page to hear right when you get on, its a new song from the awfully deep sessions, very classic roots sound & style. the 1 i wont even concider a remix is the Colossal Insight Jammer Mix #8, which is not really colossal insight because their is no same lyrics & beat, not even the usual chorus. mean st. #9 is another alternate from awfully deep, a very electronic autechre-ish beat mixed with eastern sounds from india (sitar & saranghi), 1 of the best ever. pep my game #10 is a roots flavored gangsta influinced # that will have all dem pepin ya, step ya game up (also alterately from awfully deep). this world is mine (plan b studio) was originally on the noodle pack for awfully deep, this version is all on its own making it almost brand new & completelly better. grown man is more a less a cool cat song, like goin on the town, bit a jazzy hip hop. i love awfully deep, but right now im alternating my levels of deep. so if you like any of roots albums this one will not dissapoint. also get the new coldcut album with true skool with roots mamuva. & check out rodney p's album the future, very similar to roots. cheers

I have been an avid fan of Roots Manuva since I first heard him on Groove Armada's remix of his 'Next Type of Motion.' Loved his take on hip hop and proved on his prior albums that his style was original and equally enjoyable.

This album is no different. Roots brings his unique ability to combine sharp lyrics with well crafted beats which sometimes come off as quirky but always appropriate.

It's no wonder many producers and DJ's are collaborating with this man, as he continually proves to add something needed in today's over-hyped and over-played pop-hip hop scene. Be sure to check out his appearance on Coldcut's new album as well.

My personal fav's from this album are 'Nobody's Dancing' and 'Grown Man,' (Can't get enough of that sax!)

- yes mate, Its nailed.

When it's all said and done nobody i've heard can deliver the slick styling vocal and downright solid productions and grooves like RM can. "Alternatly Deep" is a wicked collection of tracks that spins through many thick grooves and beats driveing ahead with fantastic poems and choruses commentating the London mindset .A truly original entity in Hip Hop. Total Quality and innovation. Thanks Rodney!!!!!
