- Whoa...

Terror Squad initially seemed to be one of those groups where people knew the name of the frontman (Fat Joe) and nobody else. But that all changed when "Lean Back", which was really Remy Ma's song, went all the way to the top of the Hot 100 chart; still, I think HipHopSite.com said it best when it said that that was another example of an artist scoring a massive hit single yet nobody picks up the album (how many people do you know that own

?). I didn't get a chance to hear

, but I decided to listen to her latest mixtape, The BX Files.

Remy is supposed to have another proper studio album in the works, but now that she's serving an eight-year prison sentence for shooting her best friend, that's probably why this mixtape was released instead. But I wonder if you can really call this a mixtape instead of just a collection of vaulted tracks because in a few places Remy lists her age as being 21 or 22, and she was 26 when this was released. But that doesn't really matter in this case because this mixtape is even better than her album.

Despite "Where My Bitches @" having a played-out title, that is actually one of the best tracks on here. Other jams include "Influentials" (featuring husband Papoose), "Get Money, Stay Fly" and "No Bet Chill". "Loadin' Clipz" is a creative track that serves as a metaphor for gun-toting rather than being about blasting in itself, and the necessary end-of-album acoustic song "Outside Lookin' In" uses a nice sample of Staind's "Outside".

Speaking of that though, that song is about Remy making mistakes in her life, and it's ironic that she made a song like that right before she went to prison. In the end, while "Y'all Don't Really Want It" took the words right out of my mouth (well, the monotonous chorus, anyway), The BX Files is worth bumpin' in your ride. Pick it up if you're able to find it.

Remy .... It took a few listens but this cd is really growing on me. The strongest 4 songs are the last 4 songs on the cd with ME being the best. Can't wait for the follow up Punisher ..... I hope the rest was all publicity.
