- Nate deserves more credit
If Nate Dogg would be able to release this album in lets say 1995 it would have gone platinum. But for some reason he was held back on Death Row. Unfortenly it was released in 1997 ( Part I ) when every one already had turned east. But we true rap-music fans know that Nate Dogg's album is great. "The hardest man in town" and "These days" are the best songs on the album, and disc 1 is much better thann disc 2. But on the whole it's a great album. I hope Nate keeps delivering his original voice with gangsta lyrics on R n'B music, because it can't get much better.

- Nate Dogg Comes into His Own
If you are a fan of the classic G-Funk era of Dre's"Chronic", Snoop's"Doggystyle", Dogg Pound's "Dogg Food", then you have to have this album. One disc of material "The Prodigal Son", was supposed to be released back around 95 or 96, but due to "disagreements" with Suge Knight and Death Row records, it was never released. So Nate formed Dogg Foundation Records and recorded a new album called "Ghetto Preacher" and released both discs together as G- Funk Classics Vol. 1 and 2 in 1998. "The Prodigal Son" is the better of the 2 discs, featuring all his Death Row labelmates at the time- Snoop, Dogg Pound, Warren G,etc. Every song on this album is a winner and had it been released 2 or 3 years earlier it probably would have been a bigger hit. The "Ghetto Preacher" disc is also good, but does have a few weak tracks. Nate Dogg is a good singer and has his own brand of smooth R&B and funk. These albums are now available seperately and they are both worth getting, especially "The Prodigal Son".

- Nobody does it Better...
I myself consider G-Funk Classics, Vols. 1 & 2 to be a compilation rather than a full fledged album. Nate Dogg would begin production with Death Row records and later jump ship when the label folded under due to Suge Knight's financial/legal woes**. He then brought his project to Breakaway Records where he would record enough material to release a double album.
Enough with the history lesson. What we have here is 2 discs containing over 30 unadulterated G-Funk classics. I myself welcome the heavy guest spots on this record simply because Nate Dogg is an artist that works best when accompanied by his peers. Nate Dogg is well known for laying down the hooks and does so on many tracks, as well as holding his own on others. Anything you've ever heard on a Dre, Snoop, Dogg Pound record will be touched on in this selection as well so it wont stray too far from commonplace material. Either way, Nate's rhythm and smooth vocals will rock your soul and entice your ears with clean, G-Funk laced production. Each Guest rapper plays an essential part in this "book of tales" complimenting Nate's crooning with a gangster lean. Definitely pick up, good purchase for Nate Dogg fans, west coast aficionados or hip hop fans alike.peace.

- Hip Hop's Most Talented Soul Singer
Top of the line quality music. This is one of those cd's that at first takes some adjustment if your a hardcore rap head, but can be attained. Nate Dogg has the smoothest, cleanest, most expressive & unique voice out there in rap music. This cd right here gives me chills, because nate's voice is so melodic and touching. The cd is a banger, not a radio cd, but a cd to ride to or just smoke out to. A westcoast breezy for when your riding on the 405 freeway w/ the windows all the way down, cool breeze flowing & the cali sunshine smackin yo face.

- Underrated Singer
If Nate had been able to release his debut in 1995, as planned, he would've most likely been a big star. However, Nate didn't get his debut out til 97' (part 1.) By the time he got all of the songs he wanted recorded, it was 98', and the CD had turned into a two-disc album. By then, Nate hadn't had a hit since "regulate," in 94', so everyone pretty much forgot about him. I don't think many even know he has an album out. Although there are some fillers, this CD has a good amount of tight R and B/Rap tracks, and some straight up blues tracks. Highlights include: "These Days," "Me and my Homies," "Never Leave me Alone," "I Don't Wanna Hurt No More," "Just Another Day," "It's Going Down Tonight," "Sexy Girl," "D.P.G-ville," "No Matter Where i Go," "Crazy, Dangerous," and the classic outro, "Never Too Late." If you like artists like R. kelly or warren G, you'll like this CD.
