Ms. Dynamite Album: “A Little Deeper [PA]”
Description :
Personnel: Ms. Dynamite, Keon Bryce, Kymani Marley, Chris Gibbs (vocals); Punch (various instruments); Chameleon (guitar, organ, keyboards, bass, drums, programming); Edison Elektrik (acoustic guitar, Fender Rhodes piano, drums); Van Gibbs, Henrik Jonback (guitar); Vincent Henry, Bruce Purse (horns); Danny Harrison, Arthur Smith (keyboards); Thomas Lindberg (bass); Jason Dyer (drums, percussion).
Producers include: Salaam "The Chameleon" Rem, Punch, Stay Bent, Jason "Loose J" Dyer, Bloodshy.
Recorded at South Beach Studios, Miami, Florida; Playpen, Right Track, New York, New York; Murlyn Studios, Stockholm, Sweden.
The debut album of 20-year-old British hip-hop queen Ms. Dynamite arrived just in time to fill a couple of gaps. The beginning of 2003 found the world still waiting for a proper MISEDUCATION follow-up from Lauryn Hill, and in the wake of UK rapper Streets' worldwide success the time was ripe for the rhymes of a female Brit. Enter the young Ms. Dynamite, who garnered Hill comparisons by the truckload and provided a subtle, sexy alternative to Streets' more gonzo approach. As she mixes fluent rapping and sensual R&B crooning over an impressively textured melting pot of hip-hop, funk, reggae, and pop, this little firecracker confidently makes the case for herself as one of the premier female hip-hop artists of her era.

- response to andrew jacob, from radkin from london

Andrew jacob wrote the first review. Ms dynamite never tried to make a career as a rapper. Your getting the underground garage scene in london mixed up with rap. These are just bashment partys where djs mix fast hip hop like beats and mcs get up on the mic and rip the place up. So the tracks danger and ramp are uk garage and have never been claimed to be hip hop and even in the u.k these tracks were never nationaly released and aint even on the u.k version of the album. If you want an example of this check out so solid crews first album They dont know (this is uk garage but u would probably get it twisted and think its meant to be hip hop).

Also I get real fed up with yanks claiming that rapping with a british accent is wack. What about slick rick (one of the best ever). How can u claim that the british accent is wack when u got southern us rappers flooding ur charts.

Hip hop is about being different and coming with something fresh which definatly aint happening in the us scence right now(everyone wants to be 2pac). So if u want something diferent try this and anyone else who wants to talk on the uk scene come over here first and you'll see a thriving underground scene that u dont get to see in the us because record companys dont give urban acts a chance over here, it's all about pop idol (american idol) and making a quick buck!

- off the hook

this girl is now one of my favorite artist! Before i bought the album i had never even heard of the girl or even heard of her songs. I was shopping around and it was either between, Lil' kim, 50 cent, and Ms. Dynamite. (yeah, tough choice) i picked ms. dynamite. And once i played the c.d. i was not dissapointed. Every single track on the album was tight. This is one c.d. where you actually dont have to skip tracks. I love the way she mixes her style up. No song is like the other. Toward the end she has these slow tracks which she does a great job on. And i love the message she sends in each song. Every song is really positive. I have to admit the last two songs "Danger" and "Ramp", i really didnt care for. she had her rap/reggae thang goin on. but it took me a week to get over that. now those are like my favorite songs.

Sooo, basically if your tired of the same ole r&b females, talkin bout 'how their man did them wrong, but they still love em' kinda album, then you definitly need to pick up MS. DYNAMITE!!!!

- The U.S. Has an Explosive New Import

This album from start to finish is excellent. I first heard about Ms. Dynamite when I was reading some article so I decided to download one of her songs and I immediately loved it which is always a good sign. Ever since then I have been waiting for her U.S. release. It finally came. As soon as I opened it I was greeted by an album cover that looked like it was from the streets of England and gave me a good feelin about the album. Ms. Dynamite offers a positive message fusing reggae, rnb, pop and hip hop into a spectacular debut. Onto the songs....

Top 5 Songs

Dy-Na-Mi-Te-This song is good for just cruisin in your car. It is middle tempo and is about her growing up.

Sick N' Tired-Automatically a favorite. It is upbeat and I just love it.

Put Him Out-The fastest song on the album with a latin vibe. This is about an abusive boyfriend of her friend that needs to be gone.

Afraid To Fly-The mood is set by a thunderstorm-a very powerful song.

Honorable Mention-Danger-this is one of the rap songs and is really hot she can flow pretty good.

Missteps

Ms. Dynamite is not near as known hear in the U.S. as she is in Britain (where she won the Mercury Award). Hopefully that will soon change as her album debuted only at #179 at the Billboard Charts.

- Wise Beyond Her Years

Already an established star in London and descendant of the popular garage music genre, her US debut A Little Deeper gives stateside listeners an intimate look at Ms. Dynamite. Singing about an amalgamation of topics, the listener is left without a doubt as to why this precocious 20-year-old has made such a huge impact on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. The hypnotic hook and xylophone-driven beat of "Dy-na-mi-tee" give listeners a formal introduction. On "It Takes More", Ms. Dynamite objurgates paper-chasers who feel it necessary to inform us of how many carats are in their ears. Her wrath extends to deadbeat fathers on "Put Him Out", questioning the logic of keeping a man who doesn't carry his weight. Ms. Dynamite expresses love and gratitude to her little brother for helping her overcome their bleak and poverty-stricken upbringing on "Brother", the most poignant song on the album. She balances out the melancholy vibe with tracks like "Krazy Krush" and "All I Ever", singing about love in an innocent and hopeful tone. With Salaam Remi ("Made You Look" by Nas), and Bloodshy and Avant adroitly supplying a majority of beats, this album exudes intellectual depth and canorous food for thought.

hard alot of Hype about Ms.Dynamite&Heard about Her being linked with lauyren Hill&Mary J.Bliege&after hearing this album for myself I Felt like She was a 2nd tier take on Neneh Cherry which is pretty Cool.but She doesn't have a "Buffalo Stance" Track here for me.but in all honesty with Her Voice,Range&Stylings Ms.Dynamite Comes off closer to Nelly Furtado to me.which personally i can take or leave.it's catchy from afar away but upclose&hearing it non-stop at a whole setting is a bit much.still there are a few interesting things here especially the lead track.
