Disco de Lumidee: “Almost Famous”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Personnel includes: Lumidee (vocals); Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, DJ Tedsmooth, Handsome Joe, N.O.R.E. (vocals).
19-year-old R&B chanteuse Lumidee, pronounced "loomy d," received very sudden attention with her summer 2003 jam "Never Leave You." At first, the hit may seem ultimately gimmicky, but further listening finds something original going on beneath the hooky exterior. The track begins with tribal beats delayed by a breathy, faltering, echoing vocal, hauntingly off-beat and otherworldly in the manner of those early House crossover hits from the mid-to-late-'80s.
The rest of Lumidee's self-titled debut consists of serviceable, affable R&B made unique by the singer's halting, off-kilter, refreshingly unpredictable vocals, best showcased on a brief half-rapped, half-sung "Suppose To Do," a take on the "Theme From Mahogany." Lumidee utilizes her child-like voice to disconcerting effect on "Me & You" while summoning up her inner hardcore rapper on "My Last Thug." Busta Rhymes and Fabolous drop by, providing perfect foils for each other on the remix of "Never Leave You."

- Can't Stand Almost Famous

I recently heard Lumidee's album Almost Famous and after the first 5 tracks I had to cut it off, only because it sounded so horrible. This girl has no musical talent whatsoever. It even got on my Mom's nerves to play it around the house, and she usually likes most R&B/Rap that I listen to. I don't reccomend that anyone buy this cd, unless you're as tone deaf as she is.

- SHE CAN'T EVEN SING!

Her looks have nothing to do with the sh*tty quality of her "album." This girl is obviously a joke, and she knows it. It explains why she says, "I got the whole world singing off key." I hoped she knows that she also has the whole world throwing up from her tone deaf-ness. She sucks and i'm glad she flopped. You're officially fired from the music business Lumidee!

- Almost Famous...NAH!...Already Famous...YEAH!

Lumidee...everyone knows her as the "Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh!" girl. Well here's the release of "Almost Famous." "Almost Famous" is basically a mix of Smooth R&B, Hip Hop & Rap. Overall, I am very impressed with this album because Lumidee shows that you don't always have to possess powerful vocals like Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston & Lil' Mo to have great songs. Lumi has been compared to Jennifer Lopez & Ashanti (who both ...), but to me, Amanda Perez is more similar. Both are Hispanic singer/rappers, and both of their debut albums are HOT. Let me give you a track-by-track rundown on a 1 Star to a 5 Star grade (1 being the worst, 5 being the best):

1. ALMOST FAMOUS - This track is nothing more than an introduction by DJ Tedsmooth. I like this intro because it's different than most intros.

2. HONESTLY - This track is tight! The first time you hear this song, you will think that it's another remix to "Never Leave You", but it's not. In fact, this song is one of the best songs on the album, it's got this head-bobbing beat, and Lumidee's voice is like butter on this track. ***** (5 Stars)

3. CRASHIN' A PARTY [Feat N.O.R.E. & DJ TEDSMOOTH] - This is a party song. She feels like Crashin' A Party, and VIP better not try to stop her! Prepare to be Surprised...Noreaga's verse is actually tight! Looks like Mr. "Superthug" actually wrote pretty tight lyrics this time... ****½ (4.5 Stars)

4. NEVER LEAVE YOU (UH OOOH, UH OOOH!) - Ya'll all know about this song. If you walk around in the New York area, you will more than likely hear people shouting "Uh Oooh!" For real, this song is extremely addictive. As of right now, it is # 17 on Billboard's HOT 100, it jumped 7 spots since last week, so it's cruising, on it's way to the top 10! Nuff said... ***** (5 Stars)

5. FOR KEEPS - This song is the first on the disc that introduces you to the Rap style of Lumidee. I personally think that Lumidee is an excellent Rapper, so if she ever decides that she wants to go back to what she originally did, she will STILL have a successful career. This song should DEFINITELY be her next single. It's got an addictive chorus, a hot Hip Hop beat, smooth vocals and an off da hook rap verse! It's a banger...my personal favorite off of the album! ***** (5 Stars)

6. GO WITH ME [Feat. HANDSOME JOE] - This track is fully rap. Lumidee proves once again that her rhyming skills are off da chain! I have never heard of Handsome Joe before now, but his verse is pretty hot too. Lumidee is definitely versatile! **** (4 Stars)

7. ONLY FOR YOUR GOOD - This is the only song on the album that sounds as though it's missing something. The lyrics are hot, but the vocals are lackluster...I really like this track though. It seems as though the way it sounds is the way Lumidee wanted it to sound, so...what more can I say... ***½ (3.5 Stars)

8. SUPPOSED TO DO - This is an interlude, probably one of the phattest interludes I have ever heard. Lumidee has this tight sing/flow type thing goin on, and then she flips it, and sings a piece of a popular classic previously sung by the one and only Diana Ross. **** (4 Stars)

9. AIR TO BREATHE - This is another upbeat track. Lumidee's vocals are pretty nice here, and her lyrics are even better. The production is also pretty tight, I'm liking the guitar in the background, it gives the song a lil' Latin feel. Lumidee did this song justice. **** (4 Stars)

10. MY LAST THUG - This song proves that Lumidee's rhymes are off da hook. She has the perfect voice for rap. She could really hang with the females in this rap game. She has tight lyrics, her delivery is precise, and her flow is on point and crystal clear. Though I like both her singing & rap styles, her definite strength is Rap. But she holds it down in both genres on this album. ***** (5 Stars)

11. BREAK AWAY - First of all, I LOVE this beat. The piano and the beat in general, it flows so perfectly with Lumi's vocals. And to me, this is one of the songs that Lumidee expresses her vocal ability. She sounds great on here. Again, the lyrics are top-notch. There is about a minute and 30-second instrumental starting at 3:30, which I love, cuz I love the beat to this song. And then after the instrumental, Lumidee recites this poem that she wrote. The poem definitely shows that she is poetry savvy. Great poem. Great song. ***** (5 Stars)

12. ME AND YOU (WHAT WE HAVE IS TRUE) - This song is a different type of song. It's got a bangin' hip-hop beat, but her singing is different. Lyrics are nice, vocals are aight. Throughout the song, she's kind of doing a mixture of singing and rapping at the same time. Its great. I'm feelin' it. ****½ (4.5 Stars)

13. NEVER LEAVE YOU (REMIX) [Feat. BUSTA RHYMES & FABOLOUS] - Busta Rhymes is off da hook. Fabolous has some hot songs. Lumidee is off da heezy. But for some reason, I'm not feelin' this remix at all. I like each of their own individual sections, but it seems to me that they don't really flow together. **½ (2.5 Stars)

Lumidee is a real artist. I'm feelin her style, vocals, lyrics, and I'm definitely feelin her flow! This is definitely a disc that will be spinning in my CD player for a while. And I really hope Lumi has a great successful future ahead of her.

GRADED ON DEBUT DISC STANDARDS: 4.5 Stars

- Pleasantly Surprised

I also thought Lumidee might end up being a 1-hit wonder, I had hope that her album would prove me wrong...and it did. She is one of the most unique female artists out there right now, singing and laying down rap lyrics on her songs. She even does both on the same song a couple times by layin down some strong lyrics then singing her own hook. I don't find myself skipping any songs on the album, and besides (of course) Never Leave You, some of my favorite cuts are Crashin A Party (feat. Nore), Honestly, My Last Thug and Air To Breathe. All the beats are hot, I find myself noddin my head to almost all of them. It's an excellent first effort and I look for more to come from Lumidee. Definitely not a 1-hit wonder.

- the best

Even though it seems like the radio stations play just one song, it seems like that she's going to be a one hit wonder. Well, ladies & gents, this beautiful young lady has everyone fooled. This album is worth getting. The beats are amazing. Keep up the good work Lumidee, your're like the album title, but the only thing is that after hearing the entire album, YOU R FAMOUS
