Lil' Flip Album: “I Need Mine [PA]”

Lil' Flip Album: “I Need Mine [PA]”
Description :
Recording information: Clover G Studios, Houston, Tx (2007). <p>Three years after the release of his hugely successful LP, YOU GOTTA FEEL ME, and a slew of underground mixtapes, the H-Town representative Lil Flip is back with another solid studio album, I NEED MINE. A double CD with a grand total of 36 tracks, I NEED MINE is more proof that Lil Flip puts in work, displaying a number of diverse styles from dance-floor burners to neck-snap crunk to that good old screwed-up H-Town funk. I NEED MINE features guest appearances from Rick Ross, Chamillionaire, Lyfe Jennings, Mya, Lil Keke, Big Pokey, Mary Jane, Mike Jones, Robin Andre, Big Shasta, Collie Buddz, Three 6 Mafia, Yukmouth, C-Note, Sqad Up, MJG, and Nate Dogg.

- 2nd double disc album from Flip is a good one

After almost 3 years since his last studio album and almost a years worth of push backs, Flip finally releases his 4th major label solo album. Like his last one this si also a 2cd set, with 37 songs and almost 2 and a half hrs. of music, so yeah quantity is high, but I also think there is a good amount of good songs on this one. His last double disc was only 21 songs (and only about 14 or 15 were worth it), on this one I think he could have put out a 18-20 song CD worhty of 4.5 stars. Of the 37 songs, 1 classic, 2 are almost classics, 1 I skip, 16 are ok and the other 17 are good songs. Guests are on about half of the songs. Production is good and bad. Synphony does 13 songs, Shorty Pe & Flip do 6, Salaam Remi, Mel Beatz, Z-Ro and Three-6 Mafia all do 2 songs, Attractive Prod. does 4, Carnival beatz, DJ Squeeky, Frank Nitty, Scott Storch, Fyngaz, Manny Fresh, and Russell Rockwell all do 1 song. Though it doesn't match his "Undaground Legend" I think it's equal with "U Gotta Feel Me" and barely worth 4 stars but worth checking out.

- Flip, Quit Releasing Your Outtakes {1 ½ Stars}

I can't remember the last time Flip dropped an album that wasn't a certified drink coaster. If Crime Knob didn't exist, this would EASILY be the worst rap release of 2007. You know something is wrong when I Mike Jones makes more than one appearance. Thank god I DJ and get albums like this for free. I mean, how can you listen to the rhymes on songs like "White Cup" or "Warrior" and call this a hot album? And even if you bought this for the beats, you have to admit that joints like "Play 4 Life", "Family Tradition", and "Hustle" are as wack as wack gets. This isn't even a hard album. I know some of you clowns try to hide behind that "hard" thing when you call this a classic, but he's afraid to mention TI's name on "Bustaclip" and he sampled Heavy D's "Nuthin' But Love" on "Flippin" -- yeah, that's real gangsta right there. The most ironic point of the album is when Flip unintentionally describes himself as what's wrong with hip hop on "Real Hip Hop". Flip is a clown and if you think this is hard, tight, or whatever, then you're either a minor or you need to ease up on the codeine/promethazine (look it up) & Sprite and clean your ears out.

There are maybe one or two tracks on both discs each that aren't absolutely terrible. "What It Do" features Mannie Fresh on the beat (the best beat on the whole album). "3,2,1, Go" has Three 6 Mafia on it and I'm a fan, so I dig that one. "Ghetto Mindstate (Can't Get Away)" stinks lyrically, but Lyfe Jennings provides a decent hook and "Addicted (Mary Jane)" has a decent beat. But nothing on the album stands out...not even the songs listed in this paragraph.

I Need Mine $$ is a godawful release from one of the worst acts to come out of the south. The lyrics are elementary and the songs are about the same thing every "thug of the week" is rapping about. You can only spin that so many ways and Flip isn't even trying to spin it anymore. He's just plain lazy. On a seperate note, could someone PLEASE explain to me what makes him the freestyle king? I'd imagine he'd have to be freestyling on every song he makes because I can't imagine anyone sitting down and putting thought into writing lyrics like these. I recommend siiting your drinks on this overpriced drink coaster. Don't even download it -- it's that bad.

- I'm done...

My lil brother told me not to waste my money. I didnt listen. I should have noticed the cartoon character on the front of this CD and realized it was going to be just another humdrum release in the world of hip hop. I looked past it and decided to give Lil Flip a chance.

My ears ached at goofy and lazy rhyme schemes from the so-called Freestyle King. What contest did he win to deserve this title? I heard two songs that may get a second listen from me, but that's it.

I'm not bashing down south music, but it has gotten really lazy lately (as well as East Coast, West Coast, Midwest, whatever...). I'm from Louisiana by the way! I long for the days of Outkast's Southernplayalistic & ATLiens, Goodie Mob's Soul Food & Still Standing, and other classics that brought the South up during an era when East Coast and West Coast were fighting for the crown. As far as supporting another hip hop artist, i'm done. this has done it for me. I'll just buy the bootlegs from the Jamaican down the street and stop wasting my money on real copies.

By the way, for the knuckleheads that are saying, "you dont buy it for the lyrics, you buy it for the beats!", that's the dumbest thing i ever heard. If that was the case, I'll rip out some of my old DJ Magic Mike and Bass Cube tapes where there are nothing but beats. Or I'll download the instrumentals. You basically prove our thesis that Flip is a wack rapper.

If you have to spend 15 dollars this week on a southern release, get Young Buck. At least he actually has a few skills and some messages and isnt all gimmicky as this leprechaun.

i'm done...

- Totally awesome!!!

One look at the cover of this album and I was saying to myself that this is going to be something new and creative because no one in hip hop tries the album cover holding up money and jewelry. This guy and D4L are the only two bold enough to pull that off and we know how innovative D4L was. I'm a rapper myself and I just can't get a following. I write raps about garage door openers, beans and mouthwash because I thought I would be different. No one wants to hear about that stuff. They want to hear what a genius like Lil Flip has to say. An aside, on my rankings of rappers with Lil in their name, I rank Flip number 15. He's no Lil Wayne, Lil Jon, Lil Scrappy or Lil Flushot, but that boy good.

What sets him apart is that he deviates from the norm. What other rappers have the sack to write deep tracks like: I get money, Playa 4 life, Hustle, Get it Crunk and Make it Shake. This cat is breaking new ground and I am inspired to write new stuff. I'm changing my name to Lil Bpimp and putting out an album called, "I got money, come here shawtys". It will go multiplatinum and I'll get a goblet covered in rubies. I'm so crizzunk.
