Disco de Jim Jones: “On My Way to Church [PA]”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Personnel: Jim Jones ; N.O.R.E., T.I., Freeky Zeeky, Lil' Flip, Cam'Ron, Juelz Santana, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
With the name of an infamous cult leader, and religious undertones suffused throughout his raps, Jim Jones makes it hard not to expect something a bit sinister from his debut record. What transpires on 2004's ON MY WAY TO CHURCH holds to that promise, as unusual beats and schizophrenic rhymes ensue. Jones built his reputation as part of the Diplomats crew with Cam'Ron and Juelz Santana, but his record bears little resemblance to the solo albums of either artist.
Like much hardcore rap, Jones's music derives inspiration from 1970s soul, but his sonic landscapes are much more complex than most, moving from idea to idea at breakneck speed. When his rhymes kick in, jumping from the usual stories of trying to survive in the ghetto to offbeat politics to his own brand of worship, the result is a wonderfully disorienting ride. The expected collaborations with everyone from his fellow Diplomats to T.I. are here, but then, to mix things up, there's the Latin-tinged "Spanish Fly" featuring Chico DeBarge in an oddly haunting vocal turn. ON MY WAY TO CHURCH showcases a wonderfully distorted mind; it's a dark, bizarre, and ultimately engaging record.

- Dipset have it twisted

jim jones really isnt a talented rapper and the only ok song is 'certified gangsters' feat. game of g unit. all he raps about is dipset drew and his stinking liquer company coming out which may suck as much as this album. the beats are lame awell.

- Hmm

Overall this is one of the few albums that I own that is worth listening to now and again as Jim Jones really shows what he can do. The only reason why I bought this album is because I heard Certified Gangsta on Uncut and Crunk Muzik on the Internet, both songs I wasn't really into, but bought this album because I had some money to spare. After some extensive listening I was really pleased with the content, and of course made me want to buy everything Diplomats (not a good decision for the newer stuff out) but am still happy with this purchase. Alot of songs like Bend N Stretch, and Certified Gangsta have Westside beats and others like Let's Ride, Spanish Fly, and When Thugs Die, are just those songs that you really need to listen about whats going on. Except for the meaningless interlude/skits most songs on this album are pretty good, so if you like the good stuff go get this album

- Hell NO

This guy is the worst rap act out their... Only good song, Certified Gangstas, thats it. He is a Black Sterotype Rapper. The beats are O.K at most, they just put as much bass as they could, sounds bad. Bad Rap. DO NOT GET THIS!

On My Way To Church is Jim Jones' step out from home crew Diplomats as his solo debut album. This album begins with spoken spiritual words as the title track as done for the outro. "Capo Status 1st Take", "Capo Status 2nd Take" and "Capo Status Final Take" are more like an introduction interlude for the flow skills of Jim Jones. The fast paced high pitched synthesizers on "Only One Way Up" featuring Cam'ron & Juelz Santana as they flowed back to back without a hook or chorus. For a more upbeat track produced by Heatmakerz was a good display of why he's important to the Dip Set movement on "This Is Jim Jones" featuring Cam'ron on the hook. "Let's Ride" featuring J.R. Writer was a dedication to Notorious B.I.G. as he switched paces with a rapid fire flow. One of the highlights of this album is "Certified Gangsta" featuring Cam'ron & Bezel over the "Boys In The Hood" sample. In attempts to take this album to another level, "Jamaican Joint" featuring Cam'ron & Juelz Santana accomplished its goal as the Southern sounds found on "End Of The Road" featuring T.I. & Bun B. As the album quickly takes a wrong turn with fillers, Jim takes it back to the essence of a Harlem gangster on "This Is Gangsta" featuring Juelz Santana & Bezel. As also found on Diplomatic Immunity 2, "Crunk Muzik" featuring Juelz Santana & Cam'ron had given this album a fuller feel and stolen the spotlight as one of the strongest songs featured on this LP. "Talking To The World" is another good song which features the street verbal skills of Capo produced by DJ S&S. On My Way To Church could have been a lot stronger with more songs alone without the almost completely Diplomat sounding release, but there's some good material found here worth checking out especially if you are a Cam'ron and or Diplomats' fan.

- He's Talking To The World...

The Dip-Set gang is about the only crew doing anything different around the hip-hop game. It's understandable that peeps hate on Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Un Kasa, Hell Rell, Freeky Zeekey, and Juelz Santana...I mean, these guys are the only ones making a change in the way hip-hop is heard and the haters have a hard time accepting that change. I think the Dip-Set keeps it real and old-school by taking hip-hop back to some of its roots - sampling. I'm by far one of the most avid Diplomat listeners and I'll be the first to admit that the Byrd Gang may not be the most gifted of lyricists, but their production crew is by far one of the hottest in hip-hop and their beats make them sound like they bless the mic everytime. Jim Jones comes correct in his debut as he spends time spittin' about life as a certified gangsta and his experiences and struggles with the hood, maintaining a religious backbone amidst it all. While the album has some cool tracks like the NWA-sampled single "Certified Gangsta," "Lovely Dase/Memory Lane" and "Shotgun Fire," the stand-outs have to be without a shadow of a doubt the soulfully blessed "This Is Jim Jones" and what I consider to be the best cut on the whole album - "Talking To The World." Overall, not a bad listen at all.
