I don't consider myself a hardcore hip-hop fan. Over the past 15 years, I've purchased a total of six rap/hip-hop CDs and cassette tapes. I like some of the beats, but the language and generally negative vibes turn me off. Jay-Z's album fills a pretty big void in my CD collection. The Roots band is completely off the chain. The sound quality leaves much to be desired, but the beats are tight; and the lack of gratuitous profanity makes this CD a pleasure to listen to. On "Takeover" Jay gets a little aggressive in his language, but it doesn't detract from the song's flow.
All in all, I recommend this CD for those people who enjoy hip hop but don't particularly like the language.
Great CD! It is a compilations of some of his greatest hits up to the time of its release. The Roots Band did an excellent job of backing up Jay-Z. I only buy the edited versions, but if you are a fan of Jay-Z, you should enjoy either version of Unplugged.
