Supreme execution in this splendid example of intra-decade style fusion. I hope we here much more from this intriguing artist!
As with most artists that are popular in Europe, but are completely unheard of here in the States, I stumbled across Jan Delay purely by accident. But boy, am I ever glad that I did! While his first album was heavily reggae influenced, Mercedes Dance is straight ahead funk. While the lyrics are entirely in German, the groove translates into any language. If you like funk and reggae, you can't do wrong to invest in some Jan Delay.
If all you know about Jan Delay is that he comes from Germany, you might be surprised by how funky this album is. This is music that makes you get up and dance. The back-up singers rock; the horns do percussion; everything is right on. Not a bad song in the set.
