Insane Clown Posse Album: “The Calm [EP] [PA]”

Insane Clown Posse Album: “The Calm [EP] [PA]”
Description :
Additional personnel: Esham.
Recording information: The Lotus Pod, Detroit, Michican.
As 2004's HELL'S PIT was the last installment of a concept piece spanning over a decade's worth of Insane Clown Posse albums, juggalos and juggalettes (the band's hardcore fans) anticipated the next missive from their fearless ICP leaders perhaps even more eagerly than usual. While the new theme presented on THE CALM EP is typically obtuse, the ICP does seem to be exploring new avenues. "Intro" boasts an eerie hockey-rink organ sound that appropriately sets up a mystic/sci-fi thread. Not to worry, though, Posse mainstays of over-the-top profanity and violent imagery are still in abundance, albeit with a somewhat more varied musical backdrop. "Rollin' Over" takes a laid-back roots-reggae groove, and pairs it with enough curses to make George Carlin blush. While "Crop Circles" offers a brief respite by combining G-funk, New Wave, and some philosophical ruminations, "Like It Like That" is classic Insane Clown Posse, full of horror-movie samples and a boastful chorus. Employing all the familiar ingredients while adding some welcome spice, THE CALM breaks just enough new ground to please even the most discerning among the faithful.

- I'm a Juggalo and this CD is.... Crap!

I love ICP, they created our thing, developed our thing, and work harder then any other music group in this industry... And maybe that's the problem.

This CD is flipping terrible, not one thing I want to listen to on it (Luckly it only cost me 5 bucks). It's beats and lyrics were crap. This is definately ICP's worst CD.

Now I'm not saying ICP is gonna disappear like all these Armagedon types and I don't have a beef with them switching from Mike Clark to Mike P and Moving back to Mike Clark again (Both of those guys know how to make good beats for em). I'm just saying this was ICP's worst album and that's bad since they are not about talent but are about a combination of gimmik, message (Yeah there is a message so FU), and insanity.

ICP is a special group, yeah maybe in the paint chip eating way but they are still special. Their big problem is, they are going to burn themselves out! They have been out for 13 years and have 19 CD's out! That's just ICP CD's not including Psycopathic family stuff which is another 7 CD's! So these guys have done 2 CD's a year in their entire career. Name one person in the Industry that is prolific as that! You can't!

What I'm saying is relax guys, ---- you made your point. You created something all on your own, something that others wish they could do.

Take a year off, hell take two you made 26 god dammed CD's. Enjoy yourselves, sign more talent to your label. Oh and fix those dammed contracts, they piss people off. ABK should not have left Psychopathic it is a mistake for both him and Psychopathic. If anything him and Blaze should have done more stuff together, they just make a good team.

-PS on E-Sham he works better alone, I don't know why it's just the way it is with him. He should stick with solo albums and N.A.T.A.S. Psychopathic is just not a fit for him.

That's all I really have to say, keep Strugglin my brothers.

- better than hells pit but where did ICP go?

The clowns I know sing chicken huntin and Piggy Pie with some wicked sh*t mixed in like dead body man. Hells Pit was horrible. Not one track on that CD was tolerable. Now Ive been down for 8 years but I have to say that since they got rid of Mike Clark ICP isnt ICP anymore. It's either the producing or J seems to have let the weed get to his head and thinks everything sounds good. This CD is an improvement over hells pit but not much. Atleast they are back to thier comedic ways but its still not to the likes of Riddlebox or Milenko. Only two songs are bangin and the rest are just ok. The only terrible song on the CD is "We Like It Like That" because thety repeat that saying every 5 seconds...literaly. The Best song on the cd is Rollin Over which is somewhat back to their roots. In my opinion, ICP needs Mike Clark back and needs to realize why we all became juggalos in the first place. Get back to your roots ICP!!!!!

- Whoop Whoop

I bought The Calm the night before it came out, at a release party at a store here in Utah called Juggalo Homiez, and when I first heard it I was a little disapointed. Then I listened to it 1 or 2 more times and I started to like it. My favorite tracks are Crop Circles, We'll Be Alright and Like It Like That(a great Juggalo anthem). Before I end this I just want to say sumthin to all you mutha f*ckos & mutha f*ckettes out there who hate Shangri-La because all the other Jokers Cards before it weren't "about god" and all religeous n stuff. Do you actually LISTEN to ICP or do you just hear them? Read the Ringmaster booklet and tell me that sh*t aint about god or religeous or whutever. The Great Milenko had so many messages in it. The intro of Milenko gave the whole thing away "Before the coming of Shangri-La a dark carnival will sweep across the land...." It was always religeous. Death itself is religeous. So there for that wicked ass murder music sh*t is religeous. Much Mutha F*ckin Wicked Clown Luv!

- The Calm

Here's my thoughts on `The Calm'. A track-by-track review of it brought to you, once again, by a juggalo who cares. (Don't worry, this ones not as bad as A-1-Yola)

1.) Intro - Just an intro, not to much to say. I will say, though, that I don't really like the sound of `The Tempest' for some reason...I just think `The Storm' sounded better as it was without naming it something else. Oh well... n/a

2.) Rollin' Over - This is a track that reminded me a lot of the intro-ish tracks from previous albums ("Bring it On" from AJB & "Welcome To The Show" from Shangri-La. Not amazing or anything, just a typical ICP track. Beat is pretty nice & the skit at the end had me laughing... 3.5/5

3.) Rosemary - This is the first track on the disc that grabbed my attention. I really like the storytelling aspects of it & the beat is pretty nice. I love the twist at the end of the story as well. Best track on the album IMO but that might change later... 5/5

4.) Crop Circles - I don't know what it is...maybe I just don't "get" this track yet or something. I love the beat...and for the most part the chorus is really catchy. I just don't get some of the lyrics. Also, Shaggy is mumbling (like he didn't do that already) but its really hard to understand some of his lyrics in this track. Maybe after a couple more listens I'll love this track...right now it's a 3/5.

5.) Deadbeat Moms - Hmmm...seems like a remake (and not even as good as the original) of "My Homie Baby Mama". I know the subject matter is different but it seems like that track except continued & featuring Esham. J has an alright verse...so does Esham...Shaggy's is average...there's really nothing else to say. Funny in places but nothing amazing... 3/5

6.) We'll Be Alright - Another track that I haven't really "got" yet. It seems like another average track...I just can't get into it that much. Aside from saying that there's really nothing else to say... 2.5/5

7.) We Like It Like That - Now one thing "grabbed" me in this song & made me enjoy it - the beat. Lyrics are pretty average, sometimes funny ("I'll ride a pogo-stick on yo face!" LOL) but the beat is really what makes me enjoy this track. Nice juggalo-anthem in a way...2nd best on the disc IMO. 4.5/5

8.) Off The Track - Well by now I'm sort of disappointed, but still have hope. I thought this track would be the one to "unveil" all the new information of what's going on but really its just kind of a recap (in a way) of their lives throughout the Jokers Cards. Pretty average but something (probably the lyrical content) made me enjoy this track more... 4/5

Overall - 3.5/5 or 7.5/10.

Summary: Not the best thing ICP's done...not even on par with most of their other EP's. But still worth a listen if you're a juggalo (which everyone here is anyway).
