I've been learning German for 5 years and I was amazed when Rammstein came out with "Sehnsucht" because we were listening to it and translating it in class (going on the subject matter there, I don't think my teacher wants to do THAT again). Everyone in my class was absolutely rapt in the idea that Germans can and do perform music in German.
More than a year after, I downloaded "Thomas Und Die Frau'n", "Die Da" and "Vier Gewinnt" and ordered this album. Before I even got the album, the entire German class had fallen in love with the craziness of "Thomas Und Die Frau'n" and could recite whole passages of "Die Da".
Since that time, just about everyone I know has been subjected to this CD - most of them have liked it. I've played it at several parties and even the most hardened rap-haters were saying "this is alright you know".
Some of the more surprising things which have happened as a result of my purchase of this CD include: a fight over who could have "Smudo" (one of the rappers) on their Senior Jersey, various bits of lyric being quoted in end-of-year German exams and so on.
My personal favourite result would have to be in an assembly when the teacher taking it asked (don't know why) what our favourite song was. All of my friends wrote down "Die Da" or "Saft", the teacher was amazed.
In terms of what tracks are the best, the short answer is all of them. The longer answer is "Die Da", "Vier Gewinnt", "Saft", "Na Gut" and "Thomas Und Die Frau'n", if you like shorter songs "Hort Euch Den Hier An" is very creative as well.
This is more than German, more than rap - it's CRAZY. I only hope that I can see them live some day.
Ich fische frische Fische frische als der Fische Fritze fischt. If you like that, buy this!!
I happened on this CD by accident and I listen to it over and over. I am in to international music and this is my favorite. The combination of rhythms are truely creative. The melodies mold over the rhythms in a truely unique and pleasing manner. On top of that the sounds that are unique to the German language make this mixture of rhythms, melodies, and the German language make this CD a must for anyone, regardless of what language they know.
I found a few songs off this CD via MP3 exchange, and LOVED it! I had to rush out and order this CD. It's well worth the money and the wait. My German's pretty rusty, but the lyrics are fun and the beat is phat.
